Interview – Rental freezes are not the solution to Canberra’s rental crisis
On ABC Radio Canberra, REIACT CEO Maria Edwards this morning said the discussion of rental freezes wasn’t a solution to addressing the current rental crisis and it was an unfair assessment that property managers pose a conflict of interest in their obligation to landlords and increases to rental rates.
Maria emphasised that more affordable housing options should be the priority of local governments. Rental assistance programs provide important immediate support but the ongoing call for an increase in supply is key to addressing housing availability for the long term and further consideration these types of polices to further deter investor confidence and reduce rental supply.
